Education
Cleveland is home to come of the world’s finest programs in industrial design, product manufacturing and engineering. The community has even begun training students on the post-secondary level to pursue careers in product design.
Collegiate level programs:
The Cleveland Institute of Art is consistently ranked among the top industrial design programs in the country
Kent State University is recognized as one of the top fashion and merchandising schools in the United States
The Weatherhead School of Business at Case Western Reserve University offers a specialty in Managing by Designing
Cuyahoga Community College offers a two-year technical program in advanced manufacturing and prototyping. More than 1,000 people are trained in the program each year.
Cleveland State University’s Fenn College of Engineering offers bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. programs in civil, computer, electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineering.
Post Secondary programs:
Cleveland Municipal School District students can develop design expertise beginning in high school at the Design Lab at Jane Addams High School. The program allows students to earn college credit in high school while working toward a career in product design.
Jane Addams Design Lab

Knowledge Works has committed to $400,000 investment to create a design high school situated in Jane Addams High School. This venture intends to foster a design culture by exposing local youth to a unique career field and by encouraging higher education learning in regional institutions, such as The Cleveland Institute of Art.
Desig
n Lab is an early college high school within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The school, part of the Ohio STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education initiative, launched July 27, 2010 with a week-long immersion program. Design Lab is intended to foster the local design talent pool that will sustain the region as a center of design excellence for years to come.
